After a legal battle with the Seminole Tribe and a court ruling, sports betting was finally made official in Florida. However, the launch has been delayed due to other legal issues. It is expected to resume in summer 2023.
In Illinois, the first official sportsbooks launched in July 2020 and online wagering was allowed in February 2021. Betting on in-state professional and collegiate teams is permitted, but player prop bets are prohibited.
California: There were two major propositions on the ballot in November 2022 that could have legalized sports betting, but they both failed by a wide margin. It is not known whether sports betting will be brought back on the ballot in 2023.
